    New camera

Hi, just need some advice! just came back from holidays to Cairns & port douglass! had a great time but noticed our 10 year old camera, was not upto the job, and seeing so many tourists with newer and better cameras, thought I would upgrade! yesterday we went to 5 camera shops! now my question are we better getting the NEW Nikon D5200 with 2 lenses or the older model D3200 Body with a Tamron 18-270mm lens?
Both work out to be the same price! looked at the cannon 700, but liked the feel of the Nikon!
    thanks

Welcome. It doesn't really matter that much which of the two camera bodies you choose. It is the operator behind the camera that gets the results. Camera bodies are disposable items..give them 18 months from release date and they are superseded. Getting good quality lenses though is another matter as a good lens will last you a lifetime. So pick a body, get the lenses and start learning. Cause it is what you learn to do with the camera that results in good photos. All the cameras you mentioned are quite capable of producing great results, or crap ones, entirely dependent on the photographer using them.

    See you on the forums

I'll be surprised if we get a reply , But as Rick said , Both bodies /Cameras are very capable , depends on the driver as to the results , Remember if you go one way or the other you will probably have to stick with it , Lenses are not interchangable between company's RE: Nikon/Canon , Both work great in the right hands
    Canon : 30D, and sometimes the 5D mkIII , Sigma 10-20, 50mm 1.8, Canon 24-105 f4 L , On loan Sigma 120-400 DG and Canon 17 - 40 f4 L , Cokin Filters

Firstly welcome to the site, and a dam good one at that.

Personally I'd go with the body that feels the best in your hands and you can find the knobs and buttons easily whilst holding the body.

As both Rick and William have mentioned, Lenses are the items that you should look at the most, the generic kit lenses will work and well enough, so If you like Nikon and want to stick with them over the coming years, a better lens will serve you more-so in the long run.

Try these links, they may help

http://www.dpreview.com/lensreviews?sort=brand - Scroll down the page to the Nikon section and you can select any lens there and read their reviews.

There's also the Camera/Lens/Gear Forum, which under the Nikon Tab, there will be plenty of information from members and users of Nikon.

You can use the search function to help you see if a topic has been previously discussed.

    Enjoy.

What camera and, more importantly, lenses do you currently have?

^^^^ As above, let us all know what you've invested in, and send up a test shot or two.

Went with the Nikon D3200 Body with a Tamron 18-270mm Lens! they also threw in (Hoya Filter, lowepro bag, screen protector, sandisk 64g mem card, 300 photo prints) had a play with it yesterday, big diference from our old Olympus pocket camera!!
only problem so far is, one fisherman at the beach yesterday said new camera mate? think the large lowepro bag gives it away, so might buy myself just a plain backpack to put the camera in today!
