QLDers - where are the beautiful places for land and sea scapes?

I'm in the Moreton Bay area and am looking for places to get some land and sea scapes (including sunrises and sunsets). I'm happy to travel either North or South. We're close to Bribie Island and I've taken a few photos over there but there's no stand out features for me, no beautiful rocks, no lighthouses etc.

Anybody have any ideas? We've only lived in QLD for10 months and it still feels like a foreign country to me!

Gday Teressa. I live in the Redlands area & there's some nice shots to get at Wellington Point & Cleveland Point. There's a very nice old wooden lighthouse at Cleveland Point.


There's a pier & sand bar that goes out to an island at Wellington point.

Hey Teressa,
Have you checked out the various piers in the area? I'm at Shorncliffe and go to both the Shorncliffe and Redcliffe piers every so often. Both face east so you could look at sunrise shots with those.

Don't know about lighthouses though!

Teressa if you look at the threads in the Landscape/Seascape Forums you will find plenty of places to shoot.
William shoots along the Gold Coast every morning and plenty of Members shoot on the Sunshine Coast.
There are fantastic Sunrises on the East Coast especially the morning after a storm. Sunsets well you may have to get up high to shoot one of them,
All depends on how far you want to drive, There are waterfalls here and plenty of mountains try the Gold Coast Hinterlands and the Glasshouse Mountains.
What about around Brisbane from Kangaroo Point, there is also great Scenery towards the west of Brisbane.
Try Mt Coot-tha in the Winter stunning scenery up there especially when ts foggy
As mentioned above plenty of piers here though not that many Lighthouses, reason being we probably don't need them
I am sorry you feel its like a foreign country to you, have you thought of getting in the car and driving around.

I've been to Redcliffe Jetty a coupe a few times but not for a sunrise yet. I've been to Caloundra a few times, Budgerim Falls and a little down the coast (we have theme park passes so we take the kids fairly regularly). I guess that's the problem too. My husband is FIFO on a 7 on, 7 off roster so I don't always have the opportunity to get out at the times I need to. 5yo's and 3 yo's just don't have the patience to wait for that stunning burst of light. And I don't have the patience to keep pulling them out of the water!

Today we're heading either to the Glasshouse Mountains or up to POint Cartwright - I'll see what the kids cope with (hubby's away this week, but if I don't go this week it'll probably rain next weekend!).

I went into Brisbane on Thursday (Southbank) and I saw heaps of photographic opportunities but was overwhelmed finding my way around with three tired whingy boys. I'll have to make a day and leave them at home with my hubby and just wander around by myself and take photos.

Thanks again everyone - I know QLD is a beautiful place, I just don't know how to get there.

Don't worry Teressa - I've lived here nearly 10 years and still trying to find my way around! Plus, I get the fun of only being able to do public transport.

For sunrises over the water, a prime spot is in front of the Redcliffe Surf Club. I've been down there a couple of times, but make sure the tide is low to mid, high tide covers all the rocks and is very dangerous if you venture off the rock wall. I'm planning on heading down on Friday morning if the weather behaves!

If you are at Bribie then sunsets across Pumistone Passage towards the Glasshouse Mountains should be worth a try.

You could also try heading up to the lookout on Little Wild Horse Mountain (just off the Bruce Highway) for a sunset shot overlooking the Glass House Mountains (do a search here for some images).

There's plenty of sunrise shots taken around Caloundra as well. Try looking here, or enabling photos on Google Maps or Google Earth and seeing what others have done in the area. Maybe one of the wreck of the S.S. Dicky at Dicky Beach for sunrise (before the wreck finally disappears). Or the rocks at Shelly Beach.
