    Nikkor 28-80 F3.5-5.6 AF-D (bargain basement)

I've got back into digital as cheaply as I could. I recently bought a Nikon D700 (was only ever going to get full frame) with 70,000 shots on it for little over $1000 and have just bought my first lens, a Nikkor 28-80 F3.5-5.6 lens. I got it from eBay for $70. Full frame with a lens for just over $1000 - I'm very pleased with that result.

But back to the lens. If you saw it, you'd have to point and laugh at it really. The construction is abysmal. It's almost entirely plastic, including the lens mount and it's slow (F3.5 at 28mm to 5.6 at 80mm) - luckily I can happily shoot at up to ISO 6400 though. But what a performer! Sharp throughout the aperture range and sharp from corner to corner.

It is absolutely a steal of a lens and the best thing is if you drop it (or more likely it falls apart on you), you can get another one without thinking about it!

A couple of examples, which I must say does no justice to this lens.

    F5.6 @ 1/60 - 80mm. ISO 1600

    F5.6 @ 1/75 - 80mm. ISO 1600

The ubiquitous 50mm f1.8 is the same in both Canon and Nikon mounts, cheap as, but a good lens no less.

must say these are very good images. Very natural light and appearance. Very nice job. Then again, the D700 is no toy.

    Brilliant images!
Being a plastic mount, I am assuming its a kit lens correct?
    Cheers
