Would it just be better to go with a mid-range motherboard for around the $150 price as there doesn't seem to be much need in going for higher end motherboards if the needs are fast sata connectors, of which most motherboards have 2 fast connectors. And at this price you get a decent range of USB3/2 ports as well as ESATA built in.
please ask before PP my images

back to the question at hand, A $150 Mobo should suffice, (just) depending upon the rest of the build and mobo itself. Not all motherboards are created equal.

    I miss my Gigabyte mobo.

    Rick:
Does that northbridge cooler actually work, or does it just look pretty?
It works and I have watercooling on my CPU as well. My system monitoring shows my CPU runs about 20 degrees (overclocked to 5Ghz) and my RAM often runs at around 8-14 degrees.

Here are some thoughts on a rig setup for photography and some gaming, what are others thoughts? I want it to be a quite as possible setup.

    CPU: Intel Core i7 3770K

PSU: Corsair TX750M Bronze High Performance Modular 750W Power Supply

    RAM: Corsair 16GB (2x8GB) 1600Mhz DDR3

MOBO : ? Something with lots of USB3 and ideally an ESATA port. (ideally after Gigabyte brand)

    SSD (OS/SOFTWARE/SCRATCH) Samsung 256GB PRO
    HDD: Photos

VIDEO CARD: Gigabyte GeForce GTX670 2GB

Debra has had similar put together by Scorptec recently.

Fires up in a blink of an eye and is very very quiet.
It was built with video editing in mind and although it has had very little use at this stage it looks as though it will be up to the task very well.
With the few photos that have been edited on it I would say that it operates quite a bit faster than the current editing machine here which is a few years old.

The setup you quote looks very similar, looks like a powerful good setup Debra has there. Would possibly look at a quiter PSU as I've read comments it can be a little noisy under load.

and that GIGABYTE GA-Z77X-D3H looks like a good mobo too. Seems that it supports SLI as well, so get a second GeForce GTX650 and grab a copy of Modern Warfare
