    Site Security

We run some reasonably advanced firewall software on our server.
It stops various types of attack.

I though it might be interesting to see who was blocked.

As a local virus writer once told me "... because I can". I don't subscribe to that view of life. I prefer the view of my former IT teacher at TAFE: If you can write a virus I'll give you a "C"; If you can write a program to detect the virus I'll give you a "B"; If you can write a program to block the virus and remove it from the system, I'll give you an "A". Seems like a more logical scale of intelligence to me, Mark.

Basically, it's all about ego. You're only as good as the number of sites you can hack, and the complexity of the security you can bypass in the process. Meh.

Cause if they can get onto a server they have a multitude of things they can do:

    * Try and access the databases and garner 19,000 emails to sell for 'marketing'.
    * Install malicious code that then infects your computer and allows them to access your keystrokes etc..and thus your emails/banking and more.
    * Use the server as a 'staging point' to access more servers at the hosting company.
    * Or simply to delete all the data on the server to compromise the site 'for the fun of it'. We have offline backups and it would take a little while but we would be back up and running reasonably quickly.

There are a myriad of reasons access to a server is of benefit to the hacker. Some of them for 'fun' others for more nefarious reasons.

What would happen is CH, US and XX nuke each other out of existence?

I'm surprised that Russia is at such a low level. This probably means that they've completely hacking into CH and US .. and possibly XX too!

(What a pity it's not XX-traterretrial. It would have been good evidence for "life on other planets".
Do you think they should search for Spam from Space instead? Betcher that'd show something.)
