New Canon SL1 aka 100D: a new smaller Digital Rebel with Optical Viewfinder

Canon has decided to put on the skinny jeans on their new Canon Digital Rebel SL1 aka 100D. As hinted repeatedly during earlier interviews months/years ago, Canon is attempting to counter the popularity of the more compact mirrorless cameras with a more compact DSLR.

The SL1 will feature an 18mp APS-C sensor with DiGiC 5 and ISO 100 to 12800 (expandable to 25600). Burst mode is up to 4fps. Video options include 1080p (thank you CMOS sensors).

It will have a 3-inch fixed touch-screen on the back with around 1 million dots and an optical viewfinder. It has a 9-point AF system that includes a high precision dual cross f2.8 center point. Focusing options include the new Hybrid CMOS AF II, a combo of high-speed phase-detection AF and high-precision contrast AF.

The battery used is the LP-E12.

New Canon Digital Rebel T5i/700D with 18mp sensor and DiGiC 5 (and new 18-55 kit lens)

We have a new Digital Rebel leader! Canon has announced the new Digital Rebel T5i aka 700D with an 18mp APS-C sensor and the DiGiC 5 imaging processor with 14-bit A/D conversion, ISO 100 to 12800 (expandable to 25600). Burst mode can be as fast as 5fps. It has a 9-point cross type AF system that includes a high-precision dual cross f2.8 center point.

It has a 3-inch Vari-Angle (twist and shout) touchscreen display on the back with around 1 million dots with multi-touch and touch autofocus.

Video mode is 1080p. The camera uses the LP E8 battery and supports SD and SDHC and SDXC memory cards including the UHS-Is.

Special modes include Handheld Night Scene mode, Multi Shot Noise Reduction, HDR Backlight Control mode, seven Creative Filters with real-time display while Live View shooting.

Interesting to note that the LCD screen is fixed. Maybe thats because its a touch screen?
The proposed price tag of AUD750 - 799 seems a bit high for an entry level DSLR.
    Geoff Portbury owns,

EOS 60D and a couple of lenses.
