Resolution Question

I have a Nikon D700 + Mac and I use Lightroom 4

I have been ask to send photos at the highest resolution . My question is what is the highest resolution for a Nikon D700.

Be grateful if you could also advise what Pixel dimensions I set up in the Lightroom Export Module

This page has the specs for the D700 and a number of image sizes for each megapixel value which I assume can be chosen. It looks like 4256 x 2832 is the largest, and I am assuming that this would be a RAW image at 12.1 megapixels. Others will know better though.

Have a look at the specs for your camera. The section you want may be called "Image Quality". Here is an excerpt from DP Review

(FX format) • 4256 x 2832 [L; 12.1 MP]

• 2128 x 1416 [S; 3.0 MP]

The highest image quality - sometimes loosely referred to as "highest resolution" - is the very 1st one listed above, 12.1 MP

What they're after is your original image. I personally, do not hand over full resolution Raw files to anyone.
First I'd ask what purpose is the image being used for and are you being compensated if it's to be used commercially, or is it to be sent to the printers for yourself?

If it's the printers, you want to send them a 16bit TIFF (large filesize up to 100 megabytes for a sinlge layer) (assuming you shot it RAW) which can be setup in the export dialogue of Lightroom.

If it's for a friend or whatever, Send them an 8 bit JPEG with little compression. Will max out at around 8-10 megabytes.

The actual values aren't relevant here - you just need to know how to set the camera to max.
Image Quality => RAW
NEF (RAW) Recording / Type => either Lossless Compressed (default I think) or Uncompressed (This setting doesn't actually affect the resolution but may impact on image quality).

I assume that you've been asked to provide images in jpeg format. When exporting from LR4 just make sure any of the resizing options are not checked, which will output the image at it's max pixel size (i.e. don't specify any pixel dimensions in the output dialog). Also set the jpeg quality to it's max 100% (this setting won't affect the resolution in pixel-count terms, but may degrade the image if set too low).
