    Celebrating Down Syndrome Awareness month

Hi everyone, October marks the celebration of Down Syndrome Awareness Month here in Australia. My now 17 yr old son has DS so I thought I would share a couple of recent favorite photos that I took of him, having some fun at the beach with his big brother to help spread a little awareness ( I hope that's okay MODS) if not please feel free to delete.

He's a great kid his life is full of laughter, happiness, cheekiness, determination and normalness ! He's one very typical teenager right now enjoying life to the full !

I don't have personal connections with any DS sufferers but, the ones I have been fortunate enough to meet, have never failed to leave me feeling more human. There's a guy who comes to the beach with his two sons and his DS daughter. He has a big malibu surfboard and takes the little girl out in the surf and when he catches a wave she can stand up and ride without assistance. Her joy at life and her father's dedication and love is so beautiful to behold.

Great to see happy photos of your family......and also a good way to promote awareness of DS Awareness month.

Nicely taken. I have a nephew with DS but he lives in America so we don't him all that often. He recently graduated High School so he would be about the same age as your son. Thanks for sharing

I have no personnel DS stories, except the one about how this thread and especially the first photo warms my heart.
That first photo is just wonderful and suggests not only their joy, but yours as a parent.
    Thanks Nazz.

Thanks Mark Yes my boys are very close. Big brother is extremely protective, and a great support to Andy. Big sister is also a great support. This DS thing really brings out the best in the majority of people, and I believe it is the reason that Andy's siblings are such great advocates for all people with disabilities And yes, we do love our boy to bits ! He's taught us many lessons over the years, probably the most important one being... never underestimate a persons abilities based on a medical diagnosis /label .

Thank you all of you for taking the time to look at my little piece of spreading DS awareness

What a beautiful image. What a way to start the day

Put a huge smile on my face seeing how much fun these two are having.

My cousin has DS and I myself am very protective of him.
Thank you for making my morning
