first play at high ISO with 1DX

    ISO 25600

    ISO 51200

It can go higher as well!! I am amazed at how 'useable' these images are. True there was some ambient light and that may make a reasonable difference but imagine the possibilities in a wedding reception type environment. Shot in AV mode at f2.8 with a 70 - 200. ISO on auto.

yep - noise reduction in ACR, sharpen in ACR, crop on both images. Slight curves on the cat and sharpen both in CS5.

No noise reduction set in camera. I have not tried it yet but from what I read the in camera NR is pretty good if you are pumping out JPEG. I shoot only in RAW so I turned it off.

As expected, the 51200 image is pretty horrid, but that's some impressive performance at 25600!

Please don't hesitate to provide me with CC! I'd love to hear your thoughts regarding any of my images. Thanks!

Nah, that noise is ok, just turn it B&W and call it "artistic"

Seriously impressive performance Fess. You now have no excuses for any botched low light shots.

Horrid ???? I only have to look back 5 or 6 years and remember taking photos like that with a D200 Nikon and thinking that they were a bit rough around the edges and then consoling myself by saying " what do you expect when you push them to 800 ISO".

I'm not saying that getting to ISO 51200 before experiencing noise like isn't impressive, just that the noise itself is horrid . The 25600 ISO noise is very usable though, and quite astounding.

I too remember the low light performance of my first DSLR (Nikon D70), and I'm thankful for what I've got today in my K-5, which is astouding for an APS-C camera.

having come from a k10 (ISO 400 useable) to the K5 (ISO 3200 very useable) it's astounding just how far we've come in such a short time.

Not a big fan of the NR on the truck image, but yeah it is pretty impressive.
