    Is a custom one off Leica 1600mm f5.6 costing a smooth US$2million.

    f/5.6? Scoff. Too slow!

Oh, and take the word 'Leica' off it, and the price drops to only six figures...

Imagine how big it would be if was an F1.8!

Mind you, out in the desert, you don't need anything faster as it's pretty bright out there.

    Now, where's my 2X converter?

Unfortunately, we have no idea what that Ziess lens went for, or even who commissioned it — just that it was emblazoned with the state logo of Qatar. Who knows, Sheikh Al-Thani may have that one, too.

    As if!!

If he ordered the 1700 f/4 all those years back, why would he now ask for a 1600 f/5.6?
That seems like backward thinking I reckon.

Actually! .... maybe he wanted something more portable!

not that Im Jealous..(much }....but its quite sickening that some oil rich sheik can waste money like that when a lot of good could come from it.....I wonder how much they give to charity's ....while the rest of us are paying $1.50 a litre ...what a crazy world

but as a lens and a photographic tool..wow what a beast

Actually in Qatar they do a lot for advancement of the industries that help the poorer folk like agricutural projects and so on. And most of them give to charity becuase the Koran says they should, their record is better than the western rich (on the whole)

I stand corrected..... its still a obscene sum of money for a lens !,,but I suppose if you have then why not spend it

This one probably cost a little bit more, and it can lock focus on a single human hair at a distance of 1 mile

A human hair at 1 mile? Imagine what the paparazzi could do with that baby!! No "star" (pun intended) would be safe from their prying eyes.
