    Wide angle zoom choice....

    Hi Everyone.

I am having some difficulty choosing a wide angle zoom.
I am looking at the Canon 17-40 L and the Sigma 12-25 DG zooms. I have tried both and I like both but cant afford both.

So its down to one. I have a 5DMk2 and also have a 24-105 L.
With the 17-40 I am concerned I am only getting the 17-24 focal length benefit as I have the 17-24 range covered in the 24-105.
Whereas the Sigma will provide a completely new range of 12-24.

Can anyone provide me with any opinions on either lens ?

    Thanks

    Tony.

Didn't Rick post a thread about the 12-24?
    Ah! Here it is.

Or, about the Sigma, have you seen their info?

Have you had a chance to use either of the lenses?
Can you hire one, probably easier to hire a Canon than the Sigma, and see if it suits your needs.
The sigma is not constant Ap, will that factor into your thinking?
Are you using it as a landscape lens?
One consideration is that C R Kennedy will price match a GREY price from the net for a aussie purchase. http://www.crkennedy.com.au/v1/index...price%20match&

I have tried both at a local store here when they had a "big lens" open day. I gave them a good going over.
I was impressed with both although being me, that isnt saying much.
The Sigma was nicest at about 15, the Canon nice all over.
I am leaning towards the Canon as I dont think the Sigma can take filters which I would like to use. (confirmation needed here)

I want the lens for landscape shots, particularly where the angles are tight.......

Sounds like you've answered your own question,

Sorry cant help on filter size, I had a quick look here and at thediditalpicture.com, but Bryan hasn't completed a review on the Sigma.
You won't go wrong with the Canon, if it is the same filter size as some other of you're lenses, well, it seems to be the logical choice.

Canon 17-40 mm here would be my choice for so many reasons.

Since buying the Canon 17-40 I use it more now than the 24-70. It really is a great lens and I rarely find myself wanting wider than 17mm on FF.
