As an aside, why not do a 'weekend' in Hong Kong where the sellers are, and bring it back with you?

The savings made on the purchase, import duties, GST etc, can be used for the weekend away that way!!

Not possible unfortunately, I do photoshoots in HK a lot and DWI, Digital Rev and other online companies will not let you 'meet up' in person to collect camera gear as I have tried in the past....!

I have said this earlier, but buying through online HK stores, is a lot cheaper than buying in-stores at reputable HK stores. Kinda weird, but I have gotten used to it.

Would anyone be game to purchase a Canon 600mm f/4 II from DWI?

Babu, DWI have a pretty solid reputation from what I can see so by all accounts they are trustworthy with your money --- but --- a few things to consider.

Read post #4 in this thread re GST.

The 600mm F/4 II is probably not held in stock by very many companies so I feel it would be very prudent to ask specific questions about the availability of it as many o/seas retailers have been known to debit a credit card immediately upon receipt of the order then to simply place an out of stock item on back order which means that you may not see your purchase for quite some time ------

In relation to grey imports this thread on Photography on the Net forum may be of interest. It seems that there are some units with forged serial number stickers which may cause problems when you want to get local Canon service.
