Huge collection of award winning prints

My father is a multi award winning photographer and accredited international judge, who is both a FAPS and FIAPS, and he is now almost 89 years old.

He has a huge collection of mounted prints, many of which have various competiton stamps on the back of them and most of these were printed under an enlarger (pre-digital days), and he wants to sell them off.
The greater majority of these are in colour.

Some of these prints include prints that have won international competitions as well as local comps and just about all of them are 1 of 1.

Would anyone here have any ideas of the best place or best way for him to sell them?

He can't catalogue them, as he doesn't have the time or the inclination, but would like to get a little something for each print.
Is there a photo market he could attend?

I'd be grateful for any ideas.

Without any disrespect to your father's work, but a few people I know who curate and run galleries (even one who specialises in photography) are finding it increasingly difficult to sell prints. Not dissimilar to many of the pro's here who often lament on the increasingly difficult market.
I would say the photos would probably need to have a pretty significant heritage, and even more helpful, a reasonable public profile.
I wish you, and your father, the best luck with the project but don't get your hopes up too high.

A club to which he belonged might be interested, as well as some club members who know him. Try a local museum or art society also.

Have them valued by an auction house first, George. Christies or whoever. Just don't forget that the memories attached have no intrinsic value, even to a collector, unless they know the artist as Stan says.

I'm not one to judge but I doubt they have any more value than any other (non competition or prize winning) prints from the same era. Think about who might place a value on their provenance, probably very few unless your dad is well known. Try ebay, you never know.

I agree with you guys, but my father seems to think they are worth something, and as they are taking up lots of space in his home, he wants to get rid of them.

I suggested he takes a market stall and try to sell them and to approach galleries, but I think that in the end, they will just go for landfill.

Shame really, but that 's the way of the world nowadays.
