    Who owns Usain's Photos?

Usain Bolt just won the 200 metres (amazing effort!). In the post race celebrations he borrowed a camera and took some images of the photographers and his team mate Yohan Blake.
Who owns those photos and what do you think will happen to them?
I'm guessing the camera he used just got a whole lot more valuable.

Probably take an army of legal beagles to work that one out but after reading about the general paranoia surrounding images and video from the event I reckon the IOC will probably claim ownership of them.

But, then again, celebrities are treated "differently" in so many cases.

Personally I would like to see the IOC claim the images and issue a take down notice on facebook when the 658,983,543 copies of them go viral on said social nutworking site.

Depends on any contracts etc involving the IOC first (as Andrew states). Then their could be a contract by a sponsor with Mr Bolt that was a deal for him to take photos straight after the event for use commercially, and then finally it depends on the laws of the UK. So really, it could be more complex and planned than it appeared.

In Australia, the person who owns copyright is the person who pressed the shutter button. Which may not necessarily be the owner of the camera. So if this happened in Australia, and no other conditions existed, Mr Bolt would own copyright. Chances are the camera 'owner' may even be Mr Bolt. It could have been pre-organised that he be handed the camera after the event, the same as people are placed strategically to hand winners the flag of their country if they win.

An interesting situation. I'm pretty sure the camera belonged to one of the press pack.
It did not appear in any way preplanned, just a spur of the moment thing by Usain.
No doubt Nikon will offer him a sponsorship deal now.
It will be interesting to see where those images turn up. He took some great ones of Yohan Blake posing with the Jamaican flag.

I think there would be clauses in the competitor "T&Cs" that cover photography inside venues and what they are able to do with images, although whether it's enforced is another question. My guess is that Mr Bolt owns the copyright (although he doesn't own the files...)

    Cheers.

And it could be possible Mr. Bolt knows nothing about DSLR, and they are a big blur. But then again... Because he took them, they might be worth a fortune???

The showed the photos in question on TV coverage last night, and they were quite good actually.
I guess the owner of the camera is claiming rights to ownership for them to have turned up on TV so promptly.

On the newspaper website that the photographer was shooting for, they had some of bolts photos, and the photo credit was for Usain Bolt. ( they got it wrong for one photo, giving him a credit when he was actually the subject, but I'd say that was a mistake.)

    BTW, I don't read swedish.

What a coincidence..... there's an ad for the Nikon D7000 on the same page.

Awww, come on, after you have been in the closet for so long you really need to come out and admit that you are want to be need to be you would be much better off without the stigma of being another brand user.

Perish the thought that I would use any other brand than Nikon.
I'm very happy with my D700 and have no plans to upgrade at present, so I'm not sure how they cottoned on to me as a Nikon user.
    Damned clever those compooters.
