TAS : Possible Aurora activity tonight (Sat 14th July 2012)

Some great thermal activity happening on the sun, since Thursday. Massive solar storm on it's way. Which means we should get some Aurora activity tonight. At present in Hobart we have quite heavy cloud cover, so that needs to pi.. go away before we will get to see it. But if it does, those members in Tassie who can get outside tonight and get away from city/town lights, and look to the south should be able to see it (if it occurs). A solar storm is travelling to earth at 4.8 million kmh, and is due to hit tonight, and into tomorrow

If you have an iPhone or Android device, you can download an App called "Solaris Alpha" to detect and watch auroral activity in real time, to keep you updated.

Not much chance at this stage. Solar Storm is due to arrive around 7.00pm tonight, but cloud cover is going to be a problem and BOM are saying rain as evening comes. Might have to wait for the next one.
