Trial of a new AP menu layout

We are trialling a new menu layout with a view to making it a bit more compact, especially for narrower monitors.

The new menu has consolidated all the search functions onto a pull down tab.

Lets see how it goes for a week or so.

Can we get all the photos automatically with a slider. I miss half the photo on my iPad , but the ones with the little slider underneath I get to see all .

That unnecessary activity stream thing seems to have taken over "what's new" again.

    That's pretty good.
Plus it's nearly time for Kym to vote on a few comps.

I've always thought the menus were a little erratic and repetitive. I never knew whether what I was after was going to be in the first row or the second row beneath it, not sure the second row is really needed. This change is better but there are still some items repeated and some are a little counter intuitive. Quick links for example are just about all duplicate's. I think they have just evolved and been tweaked gradually over time to please the requests of the moment and have become a little over the top.

I can understand why there is "what's new", "unanswered threads" and "new posts" with their own buttons but they could all simply be in the searches menu? I reckon it could be much simpler by grouping things based on function and eliminating duplicates. Maybe to make some of these searches stand out, they could be in a different colour in the menu.

Anyway, can I offer the following as a suggestion?

Just one row for the menu:

    Home | Forums | Search | Competitions | Library | Gallery | Extras | Community | My AP

And in each one a drop down (same method as they are now, I've just written them horizontal because I couldn't be bothered doing a table):

    Sorry Kym for late reply.

Safari browser on iPad. Some photos load and I can move them back on forth on the small screen to see all of the photo. Others I can't move. That's what I meant by ' slider'. Was more a reference to my action of sliding across I think. Does that make more sense?

@Kerrie ... that would be an issue with Safari not AP per se. We serve vanilla HTML so not much I can do for now.

For those who do not or have not worked in the IT business, 'vanilla' means plain or standard, without any add ons. So it is built to the standard and no funky stuff is added, in theory making it compatible with just about every HTML (the code that builds web content) reader.

For the life of me I have no idea why the version with all the fruit is not called strawberry - surely there cannot be anything better!!!

ps, my wife has come to understand that ice cream, yoghurt, jam, boiled sweets and yes, even chocolate only comes in strawberry flavour

I was... I could have said 'W3C compliant' instead of 'vanilla'
