I have only had my 7d for a couple of month's so i haven't used it that much yet , but i like the feel of it and the focus is alot better than my 1000d, I have two kit lenses and a 18-270 tamron but want to start doing some milkyway time lapses but am unsure which wide angle lens i should purchase ? iwas hoping someone could give me some advice on which lens

I read LANTERN's thread about len's calibration and am wondering if its often used or only rarely !

    Hi Greame,
I callibrated my lenses but it is pretty much a set and forget. I callibrated each lens differently and have not really changed it since. My 24-105 was spot on focus at 24mm but + 3 at 105mm. So I set it at +2 a happy medium because the DOF is a lot wider at 24mm and you wont see a slight back focus. My 30mm 1.4 needed +12 to get focus.

You probably wont see much diffence with your kit lenses as they have a somewhat small apeture. But it is worth doing.

I used the focus test from http://focustestchart.com/. The author has a pdf explaining everything and the test chart is on page 18.

    Good luck
    See my work on

    Tokina 11-16mm F2.8
Large aperture to get all the starlight in, great colours and contrast too.

If you move to FF later on, it can still be used from 15mm and up.
All my photos are taken with recycled pixels.
