D800 and outdoor sport

Just a quick test shots on a local soccer match yesterday late afternoon to see how the AF performs with this kind of action.

Camera settings :

JPEG Large,
ISO Auto,
Manual Mode,
Picture Control : Standard, Auto sharpening,
AF-C & Dynamic 51-points


Lens : 200-400 VRI, handheld.

The only question I have relates to the actual speed of the D800 in this environment.

Is the max 4fps(or 5 in jpg mode) fast enough for a fast paced environment such as sports?

My only concern with the D800 is the occasional go kart and other fast paced situation, where I set the camera to Ch(6fps) and pray for the best.

I'm not so concerned with the buffer performance as it seems to be in line with what I already am used too, which is usually more than I'm willing to shoot anyhow.

But those lost 6 frames in a 3 sec burst could make a difference in some situations.

For each action I want to capture, at best I can only get 2 photos in a burst !
Really not fast enough (I think 8 fps is a minimum for this kind of action).

With only 4 fps, I need to use different techniques : for example, anticipate the action et capture it at the right time like with the old day with film.

It's the best subject to start with this camera.
