D800 High ISO samples

I've taken a few photos with the D800 at night and just wanted to share some real life samples of how the D800 handles noise. There's a lot of scientific tests out there so I wanted these images to reflect more on real life scenarios, they've all been post processed with noise reduction. I had taken some snaps using the HI settings but I found them pretty ugly because of the colour cast and the amount of chroma noise it generates (under low light conditions). Some samples on the net suggests that the HI settings on D800 is perfectly usable after NR and sizing down but they were probably taken under bright light. These were taken around streets of Brisbane under mixed lighting conditions. Overall I'm very impressed by the D800 ISO performance .

Thanks for sharing these they look impressive especially the 6400 ISO. I'm so looking forward to buying a new D800 im still tossing up whether the 800 or the 800E. As you already have the D800 would you spend the extra on the D800E?

I don't need the extra detail so no I personally wouldn't spend the extra for it. I believe the D800E is more aimed for people who are willing to go the extra mile to get closer to the MF like quality or for hardcore landscapers. The increase of sharpness is only noticeable on the focused area and I like to shoot wide open so I wouldn't be using it to its full potential most of the time. I've read some threads on the increase of micro contrast of the D800E, thats probably the only thing I like about it.

Very clean indeed, nothing to complain about with them and it is very pleasing to see some real world examples with areas in the images that would show noise if it were there in "bad" levels.

Would you care to share the the software used for noise reduction?

I used lightroom. Im sure topaz can do a better job

Can I ask why there's a red dot which looks to be a broken pixel bottom right door 6400 image

ok just to be sure and so we all can drool over some more images, how about taking some more at ISO 6400 lol
