Anyone else love slides & know much about slide projectors?

I really want to get a better projector than the one I have now, mainly for self-timer function, so I can just set it on auto. My current one doesnt have this feature.
Im guessing the Kodak Ektapro are the way to go? I dont really know one kind from another, so if anyone out there knows much about projectors in general and can give some buying tips, please hint away.
My local photo gear shop has a second hand Ektapro 5000 but without the remote - are the remotes hard to come by? Ive been waiting for them to get a good carouselle type of Kodak projector and this is the first they have had in so long, not sure I want to let it get away - though now I gather the Ektapro are in fact a different line altogether from the 'Carouselle' lol.
Info is a little difficult to get given these were all discontinued about 8 years ago!

I quite like taking slides to this day. I still have my older film SLR with a 50ISO Fuji Velvia in it right now for using with some of my fast primes.
There's something magical about the colour and grain of slides projected onto a wall that my digital images coming through my DLP home cinema type of digital projector just cant match, and I'm not the "I love film more than digital" type in the slightest, no way would I choose film over digital if I had just one choice (even if I do occasionally enjoy a little bit of time in a dark room). It could be the screen-gate thing of pixels I spose too.

I also like how slides are effectively little 'time capsules' as you dont tend to crack them out as often.
But dont worry, Ive never been the 'sit down and watch my slide show' kind of guy, this is more a self-indulgent pleasure!!

You might be able to track down a remote from eBay or somewhere. There's also a photo forum specialising in analogue (not sure if I'm allowed to mention other forum names here) gear who have some really great resources for finding things like that, especially among the members from OS.
I have an old Hanimex carosel style, but not able to easily access it to remind me of its functionality.

Feel free to PM me the name of the other forum for interests sake, would be good to get hold of the remote (am literally designing pieces of my joinery/furniture in the house I designed and being built now, to be suitable for slide projection purposes!)

Of course you can. Any member with over 50 posts can name other forums etc as long as they are in context with the thread discussion. We just don't allow blatant promotion (ie starting a thread saying "come join this forum").

I'm another who loves slides - and I shoot digital as well - so I was horrified to hear that Kodak has ceased production of all their color reversal films! I particularly like Elite Chrome 100 for its beautiful color and acutance. That leaves us with Fuji; nothing wrong with that, Velvia is another favorite but our choice of materials is fast shrinking. I guess it's up to us to keep on buying film! I agree that there is nothing yet to match the pleasure of a well exposed tranny projected onto a quality glass bead screen. As far as projectors are concerned a quick Google will bring up a host of affordable options. I have an old Hanimex which meets my needs, but the Kodak Ektapro series are fine projectors as well.

The one I have at the moment is probably a German made Hanimex level equivalent and has been fine to date, no jamming etc.
Just thought I may as well get a better one with the auto timer setting and choice of lenses (as well as a good line of quality spare parts for future)

Wow, hadnt heard that Kodak had stopped producing more film. I still have some slightly out of date 120 slide Kodak film for my 3D Holga, but guess even with a mini-Diana and 2 film SLRs, I still only use 10-20 films or so a year.

I'd try the Photo Trader also. There's often a quality projector advertised there. Another good web-site is FADU (Film and Darkroom User).

My father always had a Rollei projector, and I think he still has it and it still works.

Must be about 40 years old now, and had a wired remote that could also focus the lens.

I believe it was quite expensive when he bought it, but he had a Hasselblad and this was about the best projector for large format slides as well as 35mm.
As I remember, the quality was excellent.

I got an old carousel(I think) .. bloody can't remember it's been so long. It has(had?) a remote too.

It's been sitting under a pile of tools in a box for so long, and the pile of tools has increased exponentially over time, I fear that trying to retrieve it any time soon may cause me some form of physical disability

LOL! I've been meaning to clean out that corner for a while now .. I may try and get to it after Easter(I have a week off work to take scare of the kids, and the kids will need some form of activity to keep them occupied! )

Well I ended up buying a workhorse of a Kodak Ektapro 5000, with a couple of the lenses too, one of which has a good amount of glass in it.

Only thing absent was the remote, but regardless, it has the self-timer which is what I wanted most. A couple of the trays and two extra bulbs with it wont go astray either.
Cant wait to get this baby cranking.

Photo continental in Brisbane has a new 35mm slide projector I think its kodak I have started shooting medium format and looki ng for a medium format projector which also does crops like 6x17, 6x12 etc....

I have recently acquired my late father's Rollei autofocus projecor & need to dispose of it somehow / somewhere
Any ideas?? > seems unfair to dump a damn good piece of stuff that's otherwise had its day
