Straight from the Lion's Den!
DPReview and a few others have seen and played with the new 5D3 and I've read a few reviews, and everything seems to be very positive, although no-one has actually taken any shots with one.
They are saying it should be better by about 2 stops, has weather and dust sealing as well as many enhancements over the 5D2.
DPReview reckons that is more than just a re-hashed 5D2, but something more like a model in between the 5D and 1Dx, hence the higher price.
http://www.dpreview.com/previews/canoneos5dmarkiii/
They also say the 5D2 will continue in production at a reduced price, so this will now be the entry level full-frame DSLR.
B&H and Adorama are both offering pre-orders for late March delivery at US$3499.99, body only.
I'm now saving up and waiting for the full reviews!
Wow...has Canon missed a trick here? Nikon has gone 500 dollars cheaper on retail for the competing model (D800) on at least an equal if not higher specced body (and not just MP). Will be really interesting to see what happens. Looks like a model that has been possibly rushed out to compete with the new Nikon, and been found to be a bit behind the 8-ball.

Just got an email from B&H with the release details. They've finally put a decent AF into the 5D...yehah!!!

the specs look crazy im running a 1dm4 and thinking of trading it in for 5dm3 any thoughts on this idea just not sure if i like the cmos 1,3 crop of my 1dm4
Can't believe all the negative comments on that site. It is pretty obvious that they never had to spend their own money on R&D which would have cost millions. Businees has to re-coup costs and the market place will tell them if they over-priced the 5d3.
Cheers Brian.

ISO25K looks quite good and is more than usable.
Will be interesting to compare high ISO quality to the D4, more so than the D800. I think there's going to be a very good chance that the 5DIII is going to be better than the D800 at the high ISO/low light shoot out
It's definitely a strange world when we have the situation where an upper level Canon body is consistently more expensive than the 'equivalent' Nikon model!!

A couple of features that would have me considering this camera to replace my older bodies are the twin card slots, high ISO, silent shutter, MUCH improved AF. These things were missing from the Mark II and for a working photographer are welcome additions. Lots of wedding photographers use 5 series cameras and these will make it easier to get shots during the ceremony in darkly lit and QUIET churches. Two slots give an immediate back-up when the shots are taken too. Reception shots without flash will be helped as well.
I was weighing up the 1Dx, but now I'll have a choice I think. The original 5D came in at $3,400 retail in Aussie B&M stores. This is a vast improvement on that camera, but still I'd hoped that the price might be sub-$3K. The Mark II could be had for under $3K very early on. Maybe this one will drop after the initial buying frenzy too.

I've put my name down for one after much vacillation
At least the cost will be offset by our upcoming weddings and looking forward to putting it to the test in Late April in NZ

Well, as I can claim the cost of my gear on tax, I usually buy new stuff in the last week of June. Hopefully then they will be readily available and any faults identified.

Had my hands in a pre-release version at CameraPro here in Brissy tonight. I must say it was very nice. Had sime studio lights set up and a nice young girl there modeling and taking shots at ISO 6400 with just the modeling lights turned on.
We were able to view the shots on an IPad and they were quite nice.
I felt like a bit of an imposter there as I have got a Nikon D800 on pre-order.
Sorry guys, minded my manners so I did not spend too much time with the camera, left it for the Canon guys to salivate over so can't tell you much more!
I will say it was interesting to talk to the two Canon reps there
