Gday Guys and Gals,

Just reading through the December issue of 'Digital SLR Photography' magazine (UK). In a section about the Nikon 1 system, it states that Nikon "has the largest proportion of the DSLR market (46.8% DSLR market share for volume). Is this true? I don't know many people with DSLRs, so i can't really even estimate the numbers, but i did go on an O/S holiday recently and almost every other tourist that had a DSLR, had a Canon, usually one of the 450D-550D models.

Cheers,
Brad.

Hi Brad
I don't know whether it is true, but AP has run a poll for a couple of years (search "Brand Poll" in seach area on top right) Here is the link to 2011.
http://www.ausphotography.net.au/forum/showthread.php?81498-The-2011-Ausphotography-Camera-Brand-Poll&highlight=brand+poll

The results in both 2010 and 2011 show Canon as the top brand here.

Canon has the largest SLR system available, and their lenses are of similar quality to Nikon, yet are a bit cheaper.

The rest you can figure out yourself! :D

Personally, I went with the Canon system and the main reason for that was their 100-400L lens, which is a LOT cheaper than the Nikon equivalent.
Mind you, I'm waiting for the new Canon 200-400 with the built in converter to appear and I would imagine it to be probably a little dearer than the Nikon 200-400.
