during a recent trip to the uk via Singapore I picked up a SB700 flash from duty free at changi airport {$360 au for those that are interested}

Wow...its a great piece of Kit...very well made and has a great feature set and after a brief viewing of the instruction booklet I learnt how to use the filters to balance ambient light and the flash output....with the tungsten filter on and the body WB set to sunshine it really does mix the harsh white flash output with the warmer tones of tungsten lighting ...its been a revelation for me as far as using a hotshoe flash..TTL is spot on too...but using the filters does require a tiny bit of exposure compensation on the body..

the off camera remote function is also a god send when controlling the lighting ..even when just doing holiday snaps!!.

I liked it so much I grabbed another when coming home at the weekend....now I can finally using my lighting stands and background hanger that have been waiting for some lights !!

I thought Id share my first thoughts on a flash that I consider the best Ive ever owned .....anyone with other tips for its use please step up :)

sorry no pictures yet Fred...but im working towards it..LOL

one thing I am impressed with is the ability of the nikon flash system and the remote capability of my D300s...I had no idea that I could control the output of the flash's from within the cameras menu when firing them using the optical method . { as opposed a wireless connection}

to be able to chimp the LCD and increase or decrease the flash power without even moving from be behind the camera is quite a thing ...:)

I will get around to posting some shots....just need some time to do take them {decent ones that is and not test shots }

I might get a third SB700 for back-lighting halos etc

a very unwilling model...if he could talk it would be to say Pi** off dad

used the flashes in remote mode and manual on their little stands about 3 feet away from the ole boy ...just keep clicking until I thought the output was right on each unit..still learning...be nice to get my backdrops up

Got my sb700 just two days ago! Loving it.
Just curious why I cant exceed 200 shutter speed when shooting with the flash?

my D300s will only do fast sync in either Shutter priority or full manual
