I wonder what others think about which camera to upgrade to from a D90?
I like macro, landscape, birds. I don't often shoot sport or have fast frame rate needs.

Wait for the D400 next month and then pick between it and the D7000 (unbiased Pentax comment)

Phil, 12 months ago I upgraded my D90 to the D7000 and it is an awesome camera and I have not looked back you will be amazed at the quality especially in low light, on saying that I do agree with Kym though depending on your budget and timing might pay to wait for the release of D400.

For what you've described the d90 seems perfect. Don't upgrade, get more or better glass, flash, tripod etc

Seriously, a d7000, 700 etc will not improve your photography that much, if at all

Why ?

Thanks fellas for the sensible advice to keep my D90. It is a great camera and I probably haven't reached the limits of it's capability.
I have some money burning a hole in my pocket and this is what tempted me to look at an upgrade.
Maybe I will buy that long lens that I have wanted for a while. I will also wait for the new Nikon releases.
Cheers

The D7000 is an upgrade to the D90 in every way.
However, I think the D5100 would be better for your use.
Smaller price, size, and weight.
Articulating screen that can magnify the subject before taking the shot.

I have both and always use my D5100 on trips and hikes.
I also prefer it for Video.

For Event Photography: MotoCross, Equestrian, and Running we use two D7000 Nikons.
They have replaced my D3 bodies as I can no longer handle the weight for 4 - 8 hours.

I have the D7000 and just LOVE it, however, Kiwi has a point when suggesting you stay with the D90 and use the money for another lens for your kit, or Speedlight etc.

Happy shopping!!:)

op

I see you have a sb700?...if so ..Id buy another to give you more flexibility for your hotshoe lighting ....a Vr II 70-200 would be a great upgrade to the 70-300 and coupled with a 1.7TC gives about the same reach with better IQ/sharpness.....

keep the D90 for another 1-1.5 years then upgrade to a better body....I will be keeping my D300s for at least that long before I start looking at camera bodies ...but if you have loads of money to burn.....go get what your heart wants...:)

It is all in the Picture. I have a Nikon D80 and I believe some of my photos match anything. I mainly take birds ! A big Australian Bird Group on Flickr. Check the glass out on ebay , always something for sale, in the long lens field people buy one for a world trip etc and then it sits in the cupboard.

I keep forgetting how to Post a picture here and then I resize it wrong! Crickey I must be getting old. :)
