Hi All,

I've been able to get out to Wolston Park on a number of occasions (usually dropping the other half off at work) and have had a look around the grounds, in particular the original building (now fenced off and mostly ransacked...)

I had my camera out the other day, only to be told by security that I wasn't allowed to take photos on the grounds. He didn't make me delete them, but made it clear I wasn't supposed to be doing it. None of the other staff that I have spoken to have advised that photos are not permitted, but I am going to try and organise with the site manager to get out there for some shots. Because of the nature of 'The Park' rules will probably be very strict around what can and can't be photographed due to the privacy of the residents onsite.

I'm in the process of drafting up a letter to send off, but was just wondering if anyone else might be interested if I'm actually able to accomplish this!

You can add your name underneath and if I'm successful, I'll shoot out an email!

Fingers crossed!;)

i will be depending on which day

I'll finish organising the letter and finding the right people to speak to! :)

It will no doubt be a weekend, probably late afternoon - I highly doubt we'll be able to get inside the buildings, quite a few have been acquired by QPS and will be refurbished from what I understand (but am going to find out who to contact there as well) :)

There is no way they will let you near the place. Having worked there myself I can tell you things have not improved much since they used to put the mentally challenged and others on barges and bring them up to Wacol along the Brisbane river so as not to upset the pleasant Sunday afternoon strolls of the respectable people of Brisbane and Indigenous men on bare horseback were paid to follow the barge up the River and bury those who 'fell off' the barge on the way there in shallow graves along the Brisbane River.. Secrets were kept then and the conditions these days are not much better. at least the 'residents' actually all make it to the place at least.

If the timing is right I would like to join in too please. Shame, despite it's history, to see it so sadly neglected. But does make for an interesting photo subject.

Have been doing some researching to give the best possible outcome and have actually ascertained that the heritage trust of Queensland do a 'high tea' at Wolston House...It seems pricy, but I would imagine in this high tea and tour you would be able to get photographs? Will check it out some more and let you know...

Just in case you want to know what Wolston House looks like...

Pending on prices and date, I'd consider it....particularly as it's literally a 30 second drive from my place ;) (in b4 'you live in a correctional facility??' joke)
