View Full Version : White Bay Powerstation, Rozelle - Photographic open day Sunday 22 May

White Bay Powerstation is no longer in use. It will be a familiar site for anyone that has driven over Anzac Bridge.

There is a photographic open day on Sunday 22 May from 10am to 4pm and tripods are permitted on this day. The site is normally closed to the public.

White Bay Powerstation open day info (http://www.shfa.nsw.gov.au/sydney-Our_places_and_projects-Our_projects-Bays_Precinct-White_Bay_Power_Station_Open_Days.htm)

Additional info - PDF (http://www.shfa.nsw.gov.au/content/library/documents/318DE59C-03AC-27B7-7B6CBB02AD6B92B7.pdf)

If anyone is interested in going to the open day, put your details in this thread.

Very interesting.

I told Xenedette about this and she's quite keen.

We'll probably attend both days.

The location might be very good for HDR images. I can imagine that the place would be difficult to shoot in terms of exposure. Tripod and bracketing would be necessary for optimal results.

I would definitely be interested but I just have to check that I don't have any gigs on for band and make sure hubby is ok with me having two photography weekends in a row. We have the Vivid light show on Saturday the 28th.

I just called, and we're booked for the 12:30pm tour.

The tours (of the turbine hall) run for 15 minutes.

The rep on the phone told me there's been a huge response to this open day, so my advice is that you book NOW.

Afternoon sessions are available, but it seems the morning sessions are mostly filled.

You can bring cameras on the tour day (Saturday), but no tripods. Tripods are fine on the Sunday photography day.

Oh I would love to go to that but there is no way to get to Sydney at the moment. Still, hopefully they will do it again, I'll watch the website. I googled it under Images and it would be fantastic at sunrise.

You are eager Narelle. It is still a week and a half off. Anyway, good that you have been given leave of absence.

Entrance is via Robert Street so if we meet near the corner of Robert Street and Victoria Road at 10am, we wander down the the entrance.

I went to the last open day for the last half-hour or so. From memory it was only open for 4 hours on the Saturday, so quite a few people about - I think the organisers were a bit overwhelmed by the response. Easy enough to get close in shots of the bits of machinery etc, but difficult to get wider shots without people in them.

Don't miss the quaint entertainment hall - it's on the top side, entry on Victoria Rd side.

Commendable effort here I reckon by the SHFA having a designated photography day, particularly allowing hundreds of lunatic photographers to charge about with tripods :D. Hopefully there will be no tripod-related incidents and we will see more of these kind of events.

A bit about the previous open day from the ABC. (http://www.abc.net.au/local/photos/2011/02/28/3150927.htm)

Cheers.

For the tour (on the Saturday) you need to book. Cameras are permitted, but tripods aren't.

For the photography day (on the Sunday) you can turn up unannounced. Tripods are permitted.

I have to drop Mary off at the Airport for a 10:00am flight so I will then head to the Power House from the Airport. I will probably be there just after 11:00am to 12:00 noon.
It will be nice to catch up with everyone again.

I just notice the banner for this event today, even thought about this forum. I'm in, be there at 10am (Sunday). My first outing with the AP folks.

With those 2 large chimneys at the site we could have a flood of entries for the picture of the week.

So, where & when are we meeting?

Anyone wanna grab a bite/coffee before or after?

I'm taking the bus from the city so, I'll be in the Town Hall area from 8 ish.

I'll check here to see if any takers for before.

10am, somewhere near the entrance. :-)

Anyone wanna grab a bite/coffee before or after?

I spoke to the Old Geezer (Peter) today, and we'll probably do a lunch afterwards. We could head up to The Three Weeds (a nice pub in Rozelle) for lunch, or we could head to Darling Street and have brunch at the Rose Bud.

Oh Ness, you look stunning in that photo - the joys of perspective distortion using a 10mm lens and a dollop of unnecessary HDR.

At least everyone in my photo looks tall and slim while in the 'other' photo, we all look short and fat. I think the problem with that one was the camera and lens were not sympathetic to the Nikon elite.

:D
