Hi Guys and Gals

I am getting a new lens and cant decide between the sigma 30mm F1.4 or the Tamron 17-55mm f2.8.
I have a Canon 60d. My photos are of mainly people, cars and general photos. I have two prime lenses at the moment which are the Canon 50mm f1.8 and 28mm F2.8.
My thought is Buying the sigma and I have no worries about using my feet as a zoom. I will sell my two canon lenses.
Or the second option is buying the tammy and keeping the nifty fifty for low light .
Pros of the Sigma is one lens on the camera which reduces dust entering camera.
and having f1.4.
I anyone has had either of these lenses or have been in the same predicament, please let me know.

Thanks for your time

Hey Rosh, I've got the Tammy (non-vc) and love it, it was a worthwhile upgrade from my 18-55 kit. The tammy's on my camera 90% of the time now, and I pull out the nifty for low light when needed..works well for me. A few q's that pop to mind, you already have the 28mm, so would the 30mm add much to your kit? Or is it low light that's of main importance - Do you need the 1.4 over the 1.8? Or even better...do funds allow you to buy both so you don't have chose? :D

I think the one word answer is in your post. General. I would go the Tammy as a very good , general walkabout . Keep the 2 primes. Best of luck.

I was thinking the sigma as the 30mm f1.4 would cover the focal lenght and could sell my other lenses. Also the 28mm is f2.8. I enjoy prime lenses dont mind moving around for a shot. The Tammy sounds good and keep the nifty fifty. I will see some lenses today and try them out.

Ok today I bought the Sigma 30mm f1.4 and will also buy the Tammy if needed. Did a work xmas party shots and a 40th Bday this weekend and only used the nifty, photos came out great so I am sure the Siggy with a bit wider coverage will be great. My plan is to sell my ef28 and use that money towards a Tammy if I need it.

Congratulations on your new lens. By all accounts the Sigma 30mm f/1.4 is a great lens. I have read some reviews that have indicated that the AF is rather noisy (although the AF itself is very good). How have you found it?

Cheers

Well compared to the Nifty the AF is very fast and quiet. I also read a hell of alot of reviews. I was a bit hesitant, but the salesman informed me if there are any problems with the lens, they will calibrate it free of charge. So far it is taking great pics and i will post some soon.

Thanks for the feedback. I don't know what the Canon Nifty Fifty is like but the Nikon version isn't the quietest in the land.
