Im want to do a course in managing a small business - in photography.

as well as a good digital photography course.

even though i can get by on my knowledge, i want to learn more formally.

can anyone suggest any institutes where i can learn face to face?

for small business in photography and photography course. (must be face to face)

have already looked online and can only fine "online" courses. hard to find quality face to face educational institues.

Have a look at what your local TAFE offers, I think they will be one of the few that offers "on campus" courses other than full time colleges specialising in degrees.

The tax office also run FREE courses on tax and small businesses, very worthwhile.

not so. You asked about business courses on a photography forum. Most members who have done courses, would probably have done photographic ones and/or business ones, but no a photographic business course. Business courses can be as big or small as you want them, from a single day course, to a degree in business.

As far as I am aware there are not specific business courses for photography, rather just business courses! Yes you can get business courses for some of the major industries, but even they are generic, you can do an agricultural business course, but not a wheat farming one, you can do a retail business course, but not an ice cream shop one. In the end the business components are generally similar, marketing, book-keeping, client relationships, budgeting, business planning etc.

Look at the photography courses at ultimo TAFE. I believe (can't guarantee) that the diploma course incorporates what you are looking for. It is a big committment but from all reports well worth it.

In my experience you would be better of looking for a workshop type environment to get information specific to the photography industry. Business workshops don't come up as often but are a great way to learn. Maybe contact the AIPP to see if they can point you in the right direction.

Good Luck to you. :th3:

I did a course years ago called freelance success. it was quite educational as to what you need as a sole trader/freelance.
in fact i realised after doing it that many of my peers (in the film industry) didnt know these basics; what you can claim and GET INCOME PROTECTION.
I beleive monica is still doing it, there were graphic designers and others in the class, but its great for an outline on the stuff we have no idea about. Our job profiles are all similiar. Photography specific business courses probably dont exist except as a small part of a technical course e.g. Tafe and would only be basic in scope.
Correct me if i am wrong anyone.
