Good Morning,

I have a 500D & want to get a camera for my husband. I cannot afford another one of these. I love mine & would really like to get him one but my budget just will not stretch that far.

Can anyone offer help on a good quality camera that he can enjoy & that will also take good pics? Nothing over the $800 mark

I know this is a long shot but worth a try. Thank you:)

If you dont mind 2nd hand then I'm sure you will pick up a nice DSLR somewhere. Stick with the Canons and that way you can share. You can then " hand down " your old lenses when you upgrade. Happy hunting. :)

I would also say 2nd hand is the way to go. Most people sell their bodys when they have only taken less than 10k images which is just a 1/10ths or even less of the actual live span of the camera.

I bought both of my cameras 2nd hand and saved a ton of money.

I got a 40D for $530, Shutter actuation under 4k. If you look around a bit I am sure you can find a similar deal.

Thank you so much for your replies. I will check out ebay. Shame the classified section is no longer on here. I think I seem to remember Rick said it was going over to another site. Would you happen to know where? I love the Canon & he likes it to so wish e luck!

Thanks again & much appreciated.

Good Morning,

Nothing over the $800 mark

I know this is a long shot but worth a try. Thank you:)

Lots of cheap XXD series on eBay, but beware as always. I think there is a thread here recently about eBay scams...

Also consider buying new.

How about chipping in $99 to your $800 for a brand new 50D?

Keep an eye on the prices their slowly dropping or pick up a 2nd hand 350D-400D-450D - but as above make sure its Canon so you can share lenses

Raoul Isidro & Jeffde,

I will keep my eyes on things. I think now if I can save that extra few hundred & put it towards some things for the cameras. I am just starting out so still have to get a tripod etc etc. The $800 was really pushing it. I think it is worth keeping an eye out for a used one. I had a look on the Camermarket site & it looks good. I see people are up-grading to new models. I just thought it is good we have found something we can do together. Thanks again:)

shopbot.com.au is good - I have seen others on here saying to use it though some stores are better than others - do research on the store/s you are buying from first.

You can get a 500D and kit lens for under $800 it looks like it on there.
