Always had a soft spot for the Foveon sensor, think it gets under-rated quite a bit. Will be interesting to hear the way this camera performs in the real world.

Really the equivalent of a 15mp camera in terms of resolution, as it has three stacked RGB layers.

;)

I'd love to have a crack at one though... looks like fun.

Why would Sigma put two buttons on the shutter finger rest?
And two top dials on each side of the pentaprism?
(Yes, I know they function for something, but why there?)

Eberbachl. No, not quite like that. How ever the separate RGB data is integrated, 14 MPx is what I get out of the DP1. But, you are quite right about the fun it is.

RaoulIsidro. I think Sigma is seeking deity status. They do things in strange ways, like, why only 320x240 video from an APS-C sensor? No live view, etc? But then, using the DP1 is fun for its challenges.

Yep..agreed. The files are around 15mp but the resolving power is far greater.
Should skake things up a little on the high MP end if they get the rest of the camera right.
Word on the street is many companies will have their own post-bayer style sensor at sone point probably not too far in the future. Eg. Fuji has filed patents for similar types of sensors.

I have read a few sources claiming the resolving power, although not worth 46mp like Sigma claim, is still worth 30mp or there abouts from a Bayer sensor..

Either way best to wait and see how it performs head-to-head, it would be nice to see Fovean sensors have some success..

I think the law of diminishing returns may start to apply. It looks nice, but would I be throwing my D40 in the bin and getting one of these?

LOL at the '46MP' sensor

I am disappointed about the 460,000 pixel res of the 3 inch LCD screen though, come on its nearly 2011!
