hi ben
for around 400 to 600 dollars you could get a tamron 90mm macro
which takes nice macro shots
or for a touch more you could get a canon 100mm macro without is
cheers macca

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/ Check out this site - you will get a lens $200-$300 cheaper than here. Another member put me onto this site, I will be getting the Canon 100mm macro from here.

I'm pretty new to photography but in the process of buying my Canon 500D, I also picked up a Tamron 90mm f2.8 Macro lens.

So far, its been awesome for taking macro photos! (I'm not very good with Manual mode as yet, so just been using AV mode)

The Tamron does take really sharp pictures but the one thing I notice about this lens though, is when it focuses, it extends out. I've read that the Canon one doesnt do this.

I'll post some macro shots with this lens when I get home.

+1 for the Tamron 90mm Macro.

I grabbed this for about $450 delivered after much researching and aussie forums recommendations. It's an excellent performer for the price- awesomely sharp and doubles as a fabulous portrait lens on my Nikon D90.

Why has no one mention the EF-S 60mm Macro?

I take it the link shown by ccrnkovik is in the US. I've been browsing that recently and with the $ so good am seriously tempted to get a macro. Does anyone have experience buying camera gear from the states? Any probs?

I noticed on Ebay you can get the Canon 100mm macro from an Australian dealer for around $650, which works out the same as the US lens - I know Greeny has ordered a lens from the US

I have the EF 100mm f2.8 macro and have been having so much fun with it that I am always wanting that on my camera instead of my super zoom :)

Heres some of my beginners attempts at Macro with the Tamron 90mm f2.8 lens
