Hi all - long time, no type :)

It's been a while since I've been here, and have bought a 40D in the interim. I'm going through the features of the camera and have really become interested in custom while balance.

Vortex Media in the States has a set of white balance reference cards called "Warm Cards".

Has anyone used them to good effect? I tried to do a search first, so that I wouldn't be asking a same question that's already been asked, but it seems to be policy for members who haven't been on here for a while not to be able to search.

TIA

Chris, after a look through their website it would seem that the small kit comes as a 3x4 inch card.
That is not a very useful size to frame entirely and get decent light on and have correct exposure.
I am not sure how the Canon custom W/Bal works but if it is similar to the Nikon set up a plain grey card around the a4 size and then altering the warmth in camera would do the same job at a 1/4 of the price of them.

I agree Andrew, 3x4 isn't what you'd call "large", and I think that you'd need to use a telephoto to frame it properly at any reasonable distance. I guess that as long as natural light is falling on the surface between yourself and the card, any distance, no matter how small would do?

They're cheap enough in America, but out here you can nearly double the price. Hmmm...

I guess that no-one has a set that can add a comment.
