I hadnt really considered using it until recently when I discovered that CS3 does not support Canon 5d MkII files, and they need conversion to DNG to be able to be manipulated in that program. But I also hadnt considered using DNG as an alternative to the SOOC raw files that I automatically back up to a seperate HDD when importing into lightroom for the first time.

Check out this article for more info: http://www.lightroomkillertips.com/2010/to-dng-or-not-to-dng/#comments

Does anyone here use the DNG format as an alternative to Raw?

I wonder whether this will change over time as more digital files become unsupported by adobe as digital is still relatively new?

I use PEF + LR as my DAM no problems.
DNG are slightly bigger than PEF so I'll stick with PEF for now.

It's a misconception that new camera's will not be supported by Adobe, at least not for years to come. In CS4, your 5DII is supported...

DNG is in the hands of ISO at the moment. It may take a while before it is accepted. And even than, DNG is not a static fileformat - it evolves as new, unforeseen features are added to digital camera's.

I use DNG with my Pentax K20D as Photoshop CS3 will not read the PEF format.
PEF format was always readable on the Pentax ISDt
