Wow. Just reprocessed a couple of 7D files using ACR5.6 rather than 5.5... is it just me, or am I seeing considerably lower noise and artifacting? Wish I'd kept a couple of 5.5 files without any further noise reduction, for comparison to 5.6.

Managed to find a file which I'd converted using ACR 5.5 and saved as a TIFF without any further editing. I then converted the same file using ACR5.6. I've zoomed in to 426% on both files (ie severe pixel peeping) and then cropped the resulting whole screen at 900x600.

If you look at the area around the "W" in particular, the noise and artifacting with the second one seems greatly reduced.

guess this shouldn't be all that surprising... ACR5.5 was never labelled as fully supporting the 7D, it just handled the CR2 raw files as a stop gap. Even ACR5.6 is just a beta with 7D support. Still, very happy that the 7D's low noise performance (already pretty good for a 18MP crop sensor) is in fact even better with ACR5.6 :th3:

I got a book on using the latest version, it is so powerful you can just about do all your editing in ACR.
(Camera Raw with Adobe photoshop CS4...Industrial strength production techniques, Bruce Fraser & Jeff Schewe) I am only half way through the book so can't pass on any major tips as yet.
