What photo editing software do you use?

To go along with our Camera Brand Poll, thought it would be interesting to touch base on what photo editing software members use as well.

This poll will let you pick 2 choices as often these days, we use more than one.

Interesting poll Rick.
I paid a fortune for Photoshop but frankly have no idea how to use it.
I paid nothing for Picasa and I love it. It does most of what I need.

PS & LR but I also use plugins and other software from time to time.

For quick JPG edits I use Paint.net - http://www.getpaint.net/ which is very small footprint and free!

So why did you vote for Photoshop and Lightroom then? :D

I dont edit my photos, never have never will, they are perfect out of camera, aren't yours ?

Mine too Darren, but i need to tone them down a bit via software..:D

I'm currently using Photoshop CS4, does all I want it to do plus more. I find it easier to learn one product well, rather than learning little bits of various other software.

As basic as Nikon View NX seems to be, it has some impressive features for photo editing as well.

Photoshop (going to update from current version soon :o), DPP use for converting RAW only for format I can use in PS. Used to use Elements, haven't used it for sometime.

Yep. realised that after I set it up, so had to add the "I only use one" so that those that do so, could still vote correctly.

I had Photoshop CS2 and now glad I took the time and money to upgrade to CS4. Very well worth it if you ask me. I can now go back and put food on the table again :)

I use CS3 for the bulk but have been forced to use the software that came with my camera to be able to edit some photos after forgetting to change my RAW format settings :) I like it and seems easier to use than camera raw...still learning though

Just two choices? Hmpf.... ;)

I use Aperture, DPP, GIMP and PSE on MAC. On the wintendo, I use DPP, GIMP, PSP and IdImager

CS4 Extended for me as well, along with Panorama Factory 5.3 and Photomatix Pro 3.2... only just starting to recover from that expensive venture. :)

Hi All,
I used to use elements for basic editing but now use Photoshop 3 (CS3), it was just too much to start with.
Also use photomatix and ICE stitch (used to use autostitch).
Cheers

LR/CS3 for individual keepers.
For batch jobs and web use I love PaintShop Pro. By my reckoning batch process is a good 10% to 15% quicker in PaintShop than CS3.

Oops...didn't see the Lightroom option so I voted PS and 'I only use one'.

......I find it easier to learn one product well, rather than learning little bits of various other software......

Totally agree Harves. I have been using PS since v4 (currently using CS3) and find it difficult to use anything else. PS with a few well selected Plugins does almost everything you can possibly want.

Photoshop users -

What are your must have plugins?

mcdesign
11-11-2009, 7:40pm
I'm greedy I have Photoshop, Elements and Nikon NX2, Photomatix plus a trial copy of Lightroom! Still always revert to Photoshop though.
Plug- ins... Topaz Adjust, Noiseware Pro, PTlens, or they are the ones I use.

Aperture and CS4 for me, with Nik Software complete bundle plugins for both.

I,m trying to learn CS4 and Lightroom, the only reason is that my son is a student otherwise I would have gone Gimp and Pentax Raw.

I use only Paint Shop Pro X2 but am considering making the change to Photoshop soon. I love everything about the functionality of Paint Shop but find it degrades the image terribly if you need to do more than the odd sharpen and crop. The only thing holding me back on making the change so far is the obvious outlay of a LOT of money and having to re-learn my editing process.

1. I use ViewNX for basic RAW conversion, EV and white balance correction. I try to get photos right the first time and am honest enough to say I don't have the faintest clue how to do much more than crop using Photoshop.

Am trialing PSE and Lightroom 3 beta at the moment. I get the hang of PSE having used layers and some of the more basic tools before; but Lightroom 3 is a bit beyond me at present as I haven't found enough time to just sit down and get the hang of it.

Lightroom for 95% of my work now. CS4 for the other 5%, or occasionally Photomatix Pro for HDR.

Mainly Picasa and PaintShopPro. I have had some play with Lightroom 3 beta and it looks very good but I find it difficult to find what I need to use in it.

GIMP is just too slow to bother with even though the price is reasonable (free).

Natsky

Aperture 95% and the rest CS3 to add text usually.

Have been playing with a friend's Nix software and quite like some of the effects...maybe a Christmas present to myself!

Personally, I only use Photoshop CS4 (Mac).

It has far more capability than I do, so I'm more than covered. :-)

Lightroom looks interesting, but I've tended not to go down that route, as I'm quite used to Photoshop. Lightroom could be useful, though, as it makes it easier to do some things.

I work with layers, which Lightroom cannot do.

GIMP runs like a dream on my 2.8 imac ... I used for a long time before I jumped on the Adobe bandwagon.

Same here. Not much wrong with the GIMP.
