These are all JPGs straight outta camera. Zero done to them except for resize.

Im impressed with the colour saturation and the contrast, and the detail is phenomenal. Again I didnt have a lot of time but heres a few anyway ...

All A850 with Tamron 28-75 2.8 :)

can anyone else see that bizarre banding in the blue skies in #3 and 4 ?? Its not on the hi res versions so must be the resizing or the hosting, mmmm ...

Yep, looks weird...has it happened before with PB?

Yeah I can see it every 2mm or so! Not sure why.

The Jpegs look good , so shooting your raw and doing your normal post production they should really stand out.

Yes, some banding is visible. Postprocessing or in-camera? I do notice an ugly CA in the second shot too (blue-ish on the left side of that black pole, green on the right side), but at f/2.8 one shouldn't be too surprised to find some CA.

the hi res files definitely dont show any banding so its happened somewhere since resizing, hosting, and posting .. there was zero done to these images other than resizing so it couldnt have been anything in post. Ill keep an eye on that.

I hadnt noticed the CA Jev but its obvious now youve pointed it out ..

not too worried aboyut that mate to be honest .. as you say the lens was wide open and it is in a high contrast/saturation area with a really defined edge .. so to be expected at times i guess

overall it performs pretty well for a $600 lens .. :)

Looks good Darren. I'm curious- do you shoot RAW or cRAW? I've been doing some reading around the A900/A850 RAW format and I'm curious about how people use them in practice.

mate for quite a while after I got the new camera I was only shooting in JPG X-Fine due to both Aperture, LR, and ACR not supporting the A850 raw files.

The latest ACR 5.6 update supports the the A850 and LR also has support now, so ill start to shoot in RAW from now and compare RAW and cRAW ... the smaller file sizes will be a big plus with cRAW given the A850 pumps out 35+Mb RAWS ...

Yeah, I read a big theorycrafting thread on DPReview by some guys who'd reverse-engineered the format and by all accounts cRAW is a pretty excellent tradeoff- the consensus seems to be that even in extreme conditions you'd be hard-pressed to see any difference between the two in real-world conditions.

Planning to do a little independent testing of my own once I get the chance, might post up if I find anything worth looking at.

Anyway. /hijack
