View Full Version : Colour profiles in FF3.5

I upgraded to Firefox 3.5 recently. By default, colour management is on. However, it seems it does not manage "version 4 ICC color profiles" correctly, and my jpegs appear darker than they should. Remove the profile or turn colour management off, and it appears like I intended. (All sRGB profiles BTW.)

I don't know which way to go now.:confused013

I use FF 3.5 and can assure you it actually *is* ICC 4 compliant. Check here (http://www.color.org/version4html.xalter). Could you post an example where you have the profile in place and one where it is removed that shows your problem?

Hi Jev,

Your link actually points to a site I checked before I posted. It indicates that I am not getting ICC v4 compliance (I have gfx.color_management.mode = 2 and firefox 3.5).

To quote from blog.patyuen.com (http://blog.patyuen.com/2009/07/04/firefox-35-and-color-management/):

The new QCMS color management system introduced in Firefox 3.5 currently only supports ICC version 2 color profiles, not version 4. This bug occurs both in Windows and Mac OS. This bug is more likely to present itself to advanced users as they are more likely to have monitor calibration software that creates ICC v4 profiles. This may result in images being too dark. See bug 488800 (https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=488800) and the ICC version 4 profile test.

Comparison images (all I have done with the second image is remove the colour profile):

Rob,

I'll eat my own words mate, it seems the FF on this machine was not updated :(

Seems to be a bug in FF 3.5, solution would be to either not use ICC 4 profiles or to wait for a fix...

Unfortunately, the software I am using appears to always use ICC v4 :( (Capture NX, PSE)

sRGB and no embedded profiles for me at the moment!
