Why do my pics in this thread

Display they way they do when posted on this site.
All files display quite clear and sharp in Photoshop and image viewer etc but once posted here the backgrounds in particular look like crap.
I realise it all has to do with the way I am processing the image so what is "the go" ???
Is it more a case that this effect is more pronounced for pics with plain backgrounds with tonal variations. this doesn;t seem to happen on images with "busier" backgrounds.

Please help me.

Can't see the exif data - but first guess is colour space. You must use sRGB when publishing to the web.

Actually use "save for web" in Photoshop so would expect that is would save in sRGB.
I'll check to make sure that is the case.

Checked the profile on these pics and they are sRGB.
What else could it be or what am I doing wrong during processing?
Original files are 12Mb JPEG, worked, then "saved as" reduced image size to 1000x667.
From the smaller file size it then gets "saved to web" with file size of 200kb.

What do you mean by 'crap', looking at that thread, some have really nice background, others look a bit textured, so without knowing what you refer to as 'crap' makes it even harder to assist.

Have just checked these pics out here at work
(whoops, I didn't say that, I'm actually here working my butt off for my boss)
anyway the pics display pretty good on this machine, even though both computers are basically same setup. Looks like my monitor settings on home PC could be a tad out.
The home machine displays all the backgrounds very "blotchy and pixelated" with a kind of rainbow effect.

The first 2 shots in that thread and one other with the blue background look like they are suffering a bit of compression damage CAP on this (cheap) monitor but the rest look beaut. The subjects, the flowers all look vibrant and clear.

Sounds like it's set up to display only a limited amount of colors (16, 256, 65536 colors or something?). Or an LCD that doesn't run on its native resolution (but a "rainbow effect" would not be caused by that).

Question: did you callibrate your screen at home?

As jev said I'd say its how the screen it set up - I know I was having a similar problem a while ago - it ended up to be with colour quality set up 24 bit etc

I was getting real bad compression on pics (well it looked like it) when on posted the net or viewed in anything apart from Photo Impact where i'd edited them.
