Sigma (Σ) have announced their new mirrorless, full-frame, L-mount camera.
It's called the Sigma fp. (https://www.dpreview.com/articles/9907285861/hands-on-with-new-sigma-fp-a-compact-full-frame-l-mount-mirrorless-camera)

Remember that the traditional Σ digital cameras use a 3-layer Foveon sensor...?
Well this one does not! - It uses a Bayer filter system on a single layer-sensor :confused013

However... - all is not lost, and there will be a 3-layer Foveon sensor in a subsequent
camera (about a year's time I think).

The old standard SA mount is gone too. At least this one still looks like a brick

Probably the most interesting recent announcement imo.
Seems very much geared towards the video side of things with it’s modularity but I can see the appeal to backcountry Landscapers with small wide primes. The E-shutter only gives me pause but I’m not the target market for this camera anyways.
I do look forward to their FF Foveon model though and see what wackiness Yamaki-san and team comes up with.

That's right, Swifty. When the Foveon FF camera comes out it'll be a 20 (or 24?) Mpx
job with 1:1:1 sensor configuration, like the sensor up until the Quattro series.

Oh, the slow flash sync speed (1/30sec) is pretty  too, though it seems to be no
slouch in the video department. You know how it is: W8-10-C.

The flash sync gives a clue to its sensor readout speed.
So there’s the potential for rolling shutter effects for fast moving subjects.
I enjoy studio portraits, fast street photography as well as not caring much about video so definitely not a model for me but I still like what Sigma’s doing.
Price will be very interesting.
There’re no moving parts at all and if the L-alliance produces some sort of economies of scale with procuring sensors, they could price this thing quite aggressively.

Here's a write-up from PetaPixel, (https://petapixel.com/2019/07/11/sigma-unveils-the-fp-the-worlds-smallest-full-frame-mirrorless-camera/)
...and some info from Sigma (https://www.sigma-global.com/en/cameras/fp-series/) about its modularity,
...and at last... I found some specs from Sigma (https://www.sigma-global.com/en/cameras/fp-series/specifications/) (which I missed among all the noise before:o)

I must say that with 4K (2160p) and 4X slo-mo at 1080p, the video specs look interesting, too :umm:
And of course you need USB3. OK, the rolling shutter allowing only 1/30sec flash sync is a bit of a
challenge, but not insurmountable.

Woops! In the specs link from Sigma it says:
"Type Interchangeable-lens SLR Type Digital Camera " :o to them.
