Hi all,

I have just purchased a macro lens and watch to start having a crack at a whole new world of photography that is unfamiliar to me. So for those that don’t know what I specialise in it’s automotive based photography so this is miles away from my comfort zone.

Any and all tips and opinions are welcome.

I plan to start with watches as I have a large collection or them. Then maybe some macro nature shots. I have chosen stationary non living objects to start with to get the hang of it.

Gopher for it, Dan. Will look forward to your shots.

Since you'll be starting with relatively flat shots, try for a reasonably wide aperture first.
Maybe run a series at different apertures to see how/if the image degrades.

A good steady tripod. When you are focusing on the small, the slightest body movement forward or backward can mean you are not focusing on what you want, especially at wide apertures.. a few mm off can really muck up what you had intended the photo to look like. Have fun with this new adventure

Thanks guys, I will take both comments under advisement. Rick, I have a good and steady tripod and I have a remote to control shutter as well so no movement by pushing the button.

I’m really looking forward to this.

Out of curiosity, Dan, what lens did you get?

I guess you’ve never had to ask anyone for the time? ;)
