Hi all,

For the past few months I've been looking and reading up on timelapses.
I've also fallen for and wanting to get myself a timelapse slider kit.

Does any one have any experience or is currently using a slider?

I would ideally like to get one with a motor and moves when the shutter is closed.

There are several rail systems out there. Most use step motors with a controller to take images when the camera is still. I've been looking for one that would be suitable for macro work, but have yet to find one. I may have to get something built. Have a look at the LRTimeLapse site. They have adds for rails and various camera movers suitable for time-lapse.

Thanks Steve, I'll have a quick look at LRT website.

Have a look on YouTube, there are a lot of DIY versions using stepper motors or very low speed motors for smooth motion. I'm looking at building a manual one out of either a draw slide or a two rail / track system.

pretty easy to build a diy slider. i made one out of second hand bits and bunnings stuff. works pretty well. used a cheapy motor meant for a telescope mount. for a more polished slider, check out the dynamic perception stuff. I know a lot of guys use their gear (I hope to uprade my rig to an eMotimo TB3 with added dynamic peception slider) sometime in the next year or so myself. great fun!
