I currently have a fairly large Gitzo G1348 tripod that I used with my 4x5 view camera. It is my main tripod even with my Canon 5D. I am looking for a carbon fiber tripod that can fit in a 22" carry on bag for airplane travel. Gitzo use to make a four section tripod called the G-1228 that folded down to 21" and would support a 16lb. camera. It is no longer available. Does anyone have a suggestion for the type of tripod I am looking for airlines travel? Thanks, John

I'm interested in a lightweight travel tripod too. My current tripod is way too chunky to lug around. Subscribed for future updates

Something like a Manfrotto 055CXPRO4 Carbon Fibre Tripod or Gitzo Carbon Explorer Series 2 - 4 Section Tripod be suitable?

Also have a look at the Benro travel tripods.
I have a C/F one that folds down really well and is very light to carry, but solid enough to hold my 5D3 with 100-400 lens and converter.

For a good combination of sturdy and compact for travel the Sirui N2204 or N2205 might suit you.

The legs on them double back on themselves for transport, which tucks the head mount between the legs.
The model differences are the number of leg segments and max wieght capacity 33lb vs 26lb

Here are some spec's http://www.siruicanada.com/tripod_n.htm#

The brand is from China and is well regarded in Europe where they are more commonly distributed.
Australia has one one distributor I know of.

If you are interested after satisfying yourself of the build quality, (which is supposed to be very high with quality carbon fire and forged metal parts) then after a quick look Canada might be your closest place to have one sent from. http://www.siruicanada.com/buy.htm

John, why not stick with Gitzo? You can't beat the quality of their latest Traveler series.. http://www.gitzo.co.uk/traveler-ser1-carbon-fiber-4-sections-no-head-gt1544t
