Wow if true. The front element would need to be at least 100mm, but probably much larger in reality if you go by the 200/2 primes as guides. And those are primes, not zooms.
I'd thought they try to make a 24-70 f2 before trying a 70-200 f2. Actually I'd thought Sigma to be one pushing the boundaries of lens design such as their APS-C 18-35/1.8.

Rumours are that sigma is having a crack the 24-70 f2. Now that's a lens I'd want.

a 70-200 mm lens with a (min) 100mm front filter ring(lens) size ... seems hardly a 50-50 likelyhood.

I don't think Sony has the (up)market customer base for this lens type .. yet!

And to further diminish the likelyhood, it seems to go against Sony's current photography gear engineering efforts of late .. that is small and compact!
They seem to be gravitating away from the traditional large DSLR type camera and focusing(pun intended!) more on the compact market, which they have been making better inroads into.
So a super large and heavy lens to go on super small/lightweight cameras seems like a contradiction in philosophy, and an disjointed marketing move.

A new 70-200/2.8 lens to suit their new camera lineup could be possible .. with tweaks in focusing system to match to the new on sensor af technology and so on .. makes more sense.

That's going to be a huge and heavy lens! Look at the Nikon and Canon 200mm f2 prime lenses, they are 2.93kg and 2.54kg respectively! A 70-200 f2 zoom would be much larger and heavier.
