well im thinking of a NIKON L810 wich is another p&s but its 16.1MP, 4.0-104mm and the 26x wide optical zoom seems tempting but i might get a DSLR yet depends if there's any discounts when i have the money lol

Well the Nikon D3200 is out now Jimmy, so there should be a bunch of D3100's going pretty cheaply. Cropped sensor though. Not that I mind that because I've got one.

You can buy either an entry level Canon or Nikon DSLR with lens for around that price. Have a look in the sponsors thread for prices.

You'll have a blast with it. As for a lens, it depends on what you want to shoot. For a good walk around street/general purpose lens, I saw a Tamron 17-55 f2.8 non VC on Gumtree the other day for $250. These are a bit of a cult lens because of their amazing sharpness. Something like that would work very well for you if funds allow. If not, I picked up a Nikon 35mm f1.8G for $130 2nd hand. That would at least get you shooting. Good luck with your search, whatever you choose.

As a good allrounder lens to start with an 18-105VR is a handy bit of kit.
Then as funds allowed you could delve into more specialised stuff like 35/1.8's and even a manual lens or two from yesteryear.

Based on the photos you've posted on AP, I think it's worth investigating a cheap DSLR. I reckon it will help your photography in the long run. To some degree it doesn't matter what DSLR you start with, you're young enough to have time to save and progress to better equipment.
In the mean time, do you have a phone with a camera to satisfy the need to take photos? :)
