Overall I find the usability of the site to be quite good. A few specific comments...

Un-answered Threads - I use this occasionally (although been slack recently :o) but find it a bit cumbersome to use as there is a lot of stuff pulled up that don't require responses (comp announcements for example). I think if this just displayed posts from the critique forums and in reverse order (oldest first) it would be a lot more useful. Maybe should be a new item ("Un-answered Critique" for example), and might need a cut-off period (within the last 30/60 days etc) to avoid dredging up really old stuff.

Links in Posts - some time ago when a link was included in a post, the text that was to be displayed (defaulted same as URL) was highlighted in the HTML automatically, making it easy to replace with the text you wanted to display. That doesn't happen now which makes it a bit harder to find and replace the text. Ideally a popup like that in gmail with two text entry fields (one for the URL and one for the text to be displayed) would be good. (This is not a big issue but would be useful I think, esp for new users).

Comps - no problems, the comp system is great. However an enhancement I'd like is for entrants to be able to see the voting spread for their entries (as a histogram would be great :D, but not essential). For example I would prefer to know that i got two 8's and ten 2's (average = 3) rather than twelve 5's (average = 5). I think this would encourage entries from those that predominantly shoot less popular genres as they would get more value from comp results.

Thanks for taking the time to get our views...

Cheers.

@Phil

New Un-answered CC Threads in AP Extras sub menu (good idea) :th3:
Links in Posts - you can do that by type the text first, highlighting it then using the link tool
The reason it changed was the new advanced WYSIWYG editor
Comp result histogram - it's been suggested before and we have the data,
but it could lead to issues if members saw the outliers (why did I get a 1 and fred got a 10) :D
It is unlikely we would do this

Thanks for the feedback.

My first port of call is always the new posts button. I really like that one. Secondly, I like the random CC thread (is that new?). Other than those, I regularly use search to find what I'm looking for.

Editor functions
I usually use quick reply, unless I'm posting images and want a preview, where I'll go advanced. I don't use many of the rich editing functions as I'm comfortable just typing the appropriate tags as I go.

Shortcuts
I rely heavily on the site shortcuts. They're very efficient to find commonly used search terms quickly.

Library
I didn't know there was a library... I really should check it out to find out what that is.

Competitions
I have entered one competition and was very pleased with it, and will enter more. I have voted on some. One thing I have noticed is that when there are many entries, sometimes I don't vote as it takes so long to preview them all.

AP Tools
I haven't used any of these. Again something I should check out.

Profile and Settings
Yes, I like to keep my profile up to date as much as I can.

Site notices
Thanks - I didn't realise I could dismiss them. It's been bugging me scrolling past them to get to content. :D

Other feedback
Great forum... one of the best. ;)

@Eberbachl - re: Comps voting.
If anyone has a suggestion for a faster system please suggest it.
The simple list with 1-10 radio buttons is the least clicks option based on KISS

Thanks for the feedback

Sorry, I didn't mean to sound critical and I don't have a faster system to suggest. I'm probably just being lazy.

:D

But IT systems are for lazy people... we need to make the user experience as easy as possible :D

It is unlikely we would do thisMy thinking was that you would only see the spread for your own entries...

The usabilty of this site is outstanding in comparison to others. I've never had any issues with browsing and have never lost a thread. My primary focus is to see what others have posted and to gain specific information on aspects of the technical side of photography. Well done Kym and Rick, keep up the outstanding work. :th3:

This is a very usable site - much better than others I've visited. Lately, I've been using the AP Extras and Quick Links more often lately since they get me more quickly to the areas I like to read first.
