Hi everyone,

We are now running on the new hardware and everything appears zippy and well, from the mods and my end.

If you notice anything that is not running/working as it should, please post in this thread. Kym is still tuning the hardware/site software to fix a few issues, optimise performance, etc.

So please post here if you experience anything unusual.

I would also like to publicly say thanks to Kym for all his work over the past few weeks. It is much appreciated.

No issues, just that , GEEZ! AP is fast today. Whatever you did made such a difference to Firefox browsing. Google Chrome was always somewhat faster, but it also paused sometimes.
Ta, Am.
PS: Of course, I'm using the preferred FF.

There have been a few minor glitches due to the move.
Eg. comp uploads failed.
I think these are all fixed now.

The new hardware is a real jump up in performance.
It's better than I expected :D and we have not had one dreaded error 500 (except for another cause while I was setting up).

We are also hosting a bit closer to Australia (California vs Texas) and ping times are about 50ms faster (~260ms -> ~210ms YMMV)

If anyone is having trouble accessing the site (there appear to be some DNS servers not playing nice) please advise this...
(You may hear from another member)

AP has moved to a new server

You can manually redirect to the new server by editing your hosts file.

Manual re-direct instructions:
Please add this line to your hosts file...
108.171.241.171 www.ausphotography.net.au (http://www.ausphotography.net.au)

You should remove that line after 2 days as by then the DNS servers should have all caught up.

Here is a Windows 7 howto edit your hosts file. (http://helpdeskgeek.com/windows-7/windows-7-hosts-file/)

Good to see that this issue has been addressed.
The slowness of the previous server is the reason I lost interest with this forum.
Are you running on your own dedicated server now?

Understandable.

We are now on a XEN based Linux VPS, 8 cores, 4 Gb memory, Raid10 disks.

History...

Shared server (reseller via Craig who founded AP)
Shared server
Virtuozzo VPS (1.3 GB, 2CPUs)
Hyper-V VPS (2GB, 4 CPUs) - this did not perform and had serious disk slowness, so we moved after a few weeks
XEN VPS per spec above

Interestingly the Virtuozzo and Hyper-V were ~the same cost, the XEN VPS is an extra $20/month but obviously great value.

Just to let you know ping times from my Mac are all around 190-210ms which is a vast improvement. Site works well in both Safari and Firefox (Mac version).
My own site is hosted in Sydney and I get pings of 150 to 190 depending on time of day. A site in Belgium give 240 to 300 and a site set up in US (godaddy) gives the same. My Sydney site however cost twice as much as these other sites with only 50% more storage.
Keep up the good work!!

But all is good at my end. No probs whatsoever.

Mine is coming off a wireless Telstra tower that has been getting slower by the week.

Can't wait till Optus commission their 4G tower mid April.

That could be my fault. I sent out over 14,000 emails yesterday to let everyone know we have fixed the site issues..and quite a few ISP blocked me as a spammer. I had to setup all the non-spamming type stuff to fix all that since yesterday. My email restored around lunch-time today (up till then I could receive, but not send any emails). But if it doesnt come right in the near future, let us know and we will investigate further.

Yep it is working and it was caused by me. Looks like bigpong have not updated the spam unlock I sent them.. An email sent to you regarding the 'Cockatoo Rodeo' thread bounced back from bigpong, cause they still think I am a spammer. I will resend the data to remove AP from their spam filters

Appears to be handling the load pretty well.
However, if the increased performance causes an avalanche of new and old users, then you soon may be needing a dedicated. :-)

No, the previous short lived VPS was a lemon. I had performance issues just removing the old content.

This latest VPS is idle most of the time. I have some load scripts throwing 50 heavy hits / second without issue.
